Statistician/Historian needed. Ashavin's 4 goals haul yesterday at Anfield left me wondering is there any player that score 4 times in a game against United at Old Trafford? For the life of me i couldn't recall any memories of an opposition player scoring a hattrick in a league game at old trafford, let alone 4 goals. Has it been done before? How long was it?

The wonder-debut by Paolo Wanchope in 1996-97.
One of the goals being a terrific run from the half-way line.

Dennis Bailey, 1992 was last time a player scored a hattrick versus us in the league, Ronaldo was last at OT in any match....

Wanchope began his career with CS Herediano, until he went to England to play with Derby County F.C where he made his career scoring two hat-tricks on his debut along with fellow Costa Rican Mauricio Solís in 1997. Wanchope marked his debut for Derby in an impressive fashion, scoring a memorable goal against Manchester United, beating four United players before slotting past Peter Schmeichel during a 3-2 win.

I think it was. The beginning of the end of our title hopes that year. Makes me depressed just thinking about it and more so considering we went down 2-0 at Anfield and Leeds won the league. I bet that was the last time Marching laughed.

Before my time, but Ron Davies scored 4 for Southampton against United at OT in 1969, which ended up being Bill Foulkes last game. Davies joined United from Portsmouth 5 years later, making 10 sub appearances but didn't score any goals.
I do remember the QPR game, from which we never really recovered that season.

Pretty sure it was Bailey for QPR as already mentioned.
Apparently Arshavin is the first player to score 4 goals in a league game at Anfield in 56 years or something. That includes Liverpool players.
Impressive stuff.

How many opposition players have scored hat-tricks at Old Trafford? And who were they? asked Marc Beauge last week.
So far the roll of honour stands at three. Stephen Martin is one of many who remembers Dennis Bailey's brilliant hat-trick during QPR's 4-1 New Year's Day demolition of United in 1992. (And apparently he's still banging them in for Forest Green.)
Another player to accomplish the feat is Kevin Mabbutt, who John Scotchmer says scored a hat-trick at Old Trafford for Bristol City when they were in the old First Division (late 70s to early 80s).
But surely no-one else has managed to match Martin Peters, who, as Jez Simmonds points out, once bagged all four goals as Tottenham walloped United 4-1 at Old Trafford early in 1973.

I think Robbie Fowler scored 4 against Middlesbrough in 1996.
