The 7 D’s for Sustainability “Defence in depth” is now publically available: the only available integrated concept to build up a European Defence Union compatible with NATO, coordinated by me over the last months and with the input of leading European defence experts.✅Russia‘s aggression against Ukraine is directed against all of us also and tries to reintroduce the politics of Empire on the continent✅we have to build up our own European defence production capacity and soon✅the next Multi-Annual Financial Framework has to provide the necessary means for military mobility, research in the framework of an EU DARPA program and adress strategic capability gaps in space, cyber and air transport.✅Michel Barnier‘s concept for a European Civil Protection Service should be implemented in full. ✅Discussion about a European Military Model, a concept for Military Operations, Institutional Reform and how to deter against nuclear threats is necessary.

I'm excited for CTAC US 2023, which will take place next week in Norfolk!. I'm moderating a session with 5 industry experts: Cathie (France) Vick, Thomas Zack, Dr.-Ing. Mathias Dobner, David Shore, Marc Mendez around the more than important topic of creating sustainable port development, and accelerating the move towards sustainable transport. We aim to answer questions like: - How can we ensure we run a resilient port/terminal by balancing sustainability and profitability?- To what extent is regulation going to be what incentivizes industry-wide change? - What obstacles to decarbonisation remain out of our control?- Will there be a winner among the competing clean fuels and technologies?- Can we make sustainable operations a USP towards our customers?- Who will drive the final decisions towards sustainable transport? The terminal operators, the shipping lines, or the shippers?- If we speak to terminal operators, the CAPEX is often mentioned as one of the big hurdles to “go green”, how can we address this?- How key is the pace of innovation to decarbonising the industry? Is this factor more important than any strategy decision we can make?I guess enough interesting, challenging and urgent topics to discuss with the best minds of the industry.

Thrilled and honored to be part of the TRA2024, participating in the dialogue about “Sustainable Mobility of People and Goods”. I will try to give an insight of the terrirorial context (and challenge) of sustainable maritime transportation and its distinctive role for islands supply, workers commuting and overall people’s mobility. It’s interesting to discuss about decarbonization of vessels, it’s also interesting to discuss about innovation in maritime, it’s getting even more interesting when you debate for spatial data and evidence. But the most challenging (and interesting by far…) is to define public policy solutions for the islands, combining all the above. Greek insularity as an example of complex interconnected system that seek optimized solutions. #TRA2024 #islandpolicy #islandscohesion #maritimetransport #waterbornetechnologyplatform

In this paper, we make our contribution on two topics that we consider to be of great relevance in current and future situations involving commercial exchanges between all continents, but with a close eye on the European continent:1️⃣ "Navigating the Maritime Path to Decarbonization": Explore a comparative analysis of proven technologies for container terminals, paving the way for sustainable practices and reduced carbon footprint.2️⃣ "Navigating Towards Sustainability: The Power of Environmental Compliance in the Maritime Industry – from an EU perspective": Delve into the critical role of environmental compliance, particularly from the unique perspective of the EU, in steering the maritime industry towards a more sustainable future. We also like to thank two persons for the opportunity to present this paperat X Cidesport/SC Florianópolis International Port Performance Congress:Luis Marcelo Ascencio and Ademar Dutra
