With over 1,540 followers on Instagram, UCF Girlbosses hosted a "Galentine’s Day" picnic to share the love on Memory Mall on Tuesday. The Instagram account is run by sophom*ore philosophy major Nathalie Burgos. Burgos said she started the account in October 2021 because she was inspired by similar gimmick accounts run by other students. A girlboss refers to a girl or woman "whose success is defined in opposition to the masculine business world in which she swims upstream," businesswoman Sophia Amoruso said.
Burgos also selects a "Girlboss of the Week" from follower nominations and gives them a shout out on the page. The UCF Girlbosses Club is not affiliated with the university.
Anyone was invited to attend, regardless of gender identity, and encouraged to bring candy and valentines to share. Around 30 people attended the picnic.
